Overview
Contribute to the positioning of Mastercard views and its role as a technology company, with policymakers in Brazil, which includes support to design and implementation of action plans to enhance relationships among Mastercard’s and its associations’ executives and policymakers. Develop strategic insights, assess opportunities, and mitigate threats in key policy areas, and contribute to build alliances amongst external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of public policy-related strategic plans for key issues, considering the competitive environment, key customers, new technologies, business models and global perspectives so as to protect and build corporate reputation while enhancing opportunities and mitigating threats.
- Interpret and influence the policy environment relevant for the company, navigating the key political, regulatory, economic developments in the financial services sector generally, with a focus on payments, open finance, digital identity, and related developments.
- Assist in development and execution of MasterCard executives’ outreach to policymakers, ensuring that external government relations are adequately managed. Represent the company before legislative bodies, regulatory agencies, in close coordination with Legal and Regulatory Areas. To do so, identify and ensure current awareness of key external constituencies, including Governmental & Non-Governmental Organizations and key opinion leaders that may have a positive/negative impact on our business.
- Work closely with outside consultants responsible for helping develop the strategy and supporting the execution of the strategy.
- Partner with key constituents (internal/external) to determine the most appropriate direction for building relationships and avoiding adverse legislative or public policy action. Identify potential threats and opportunities; seek to build alliances and coalitions with customers and other interested third parties, where appropriate.
- Contribute to the alignment of public policy related goals and activities with business objectives, working closely with the management in the market and regional/global verticals.
- Support the management of multidimensional projects across business units/region, successfully navigating throughout the organization to partner effectively with individuals from other departments and deliver results.
- The position will be accountable for identifying, convening and leading internal work groups to evaluate implementation of complicated requirements of new public policies and legislation and/or to analyze pending proposals and associated business and logistical implications; as well as provide updates and communications on prospective and pending public policy and legislative proposals and policy issues, and the surrounding political landscape to the global public policy team, senior management, country managers and cluster lead.
- Keep apprised of developments with respect to any proceedings or quasi proceedings with policymakers, in coordination with Legal and Regulatory Department.
- Travel might be required, primarily to Brasilia to meet with policymakers, business people and customers.
All About You
Expected 5+ years working in public policy, legislative or government affairs position in a public policy, corporate, association or governmental context (preferably in payments industry or financial services sector).
- Good judgment, a creative approach to problem-solving and the ability to function as a team player.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and demonstrate soft skills to partner with colleagues across the Division, the Cluster and globally.
- Strong interpersonal skills, be a team player, and show appreciation of diverse cultural methods of working and doing business.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Demonstrate a proactive, time-sensitive, results driven approach in carrying out all duties, obligations, and responsibilities.

- B.A or B.S preferred or equivalent local degree
